We work with Genuine Leather only - The Vegetable Tanned kind.
Around only 10% -15% of the world's leather production is done this way. Here is why.
Vegetable Tanning is an artisanal method of tanning the leather.
Vegetable Tanning refers to the tanning process which is used to make this particular kind of Genuine Leather. It is based on the use of tannin - a natural substance that can be found in different trees and vegetables. Tannin is an active ingredient responsible for the transformation of the animal hide into a compact and resistant material. It is the natural tannin extracts that make the Vegetable Tanned Leather unique and easily distinguishable.
Unique characteristics of Vegetable Tanned Leather
Only Vegetable Tanned Leather develops a natural buttery shine and 'Patina' - the Classic Leather look that distinguishes it from other materials. Apart from its distinctive appearance, it endures time beautifully and at the end of its life, after many many years, it biodegrades back into the soil. It also has an unobtrusive earthy and woody smell.
Our responsibility for the sourcing and usage of Vegetable Tanned leather:
In an effort to be conscious, responsible, and transparent, we source our leather from Gold/Silver Rated Tanneries. The rawhides used by the tanneries are the discarded by-products of the food industry producing meat for human consumption. For additional chemicals involved in enhancing the durability, functionality, and appearance, we associated with companies conforming to the highest of standards like Stahl who are equally committed to sustainability and believe in transparency of Supply Chain.
